two thousand fourteen (2024)

HD video, sound, 10:55 min

The footage of two thousand fourteen is recovered from a lost harddrive and contains HD video filmed in 2014.

In the footage, we see the camera tentatively recording the ambiance of the landscape of Parnidis Dune in the Curonian Spit peninsula in Lithuania.

The focus zooms in and out of sand and plants, people in the distance. We see an insect flit in the background of the setting sun. The sound of a dog sneeze brings one into the frame under the camera person’s feet. We hear a continuous choir of crickets. From the darkened horizon, the zoom moves onto a mobile screen on which a group of people in silence go through a phone gallery of images they just made of color-matching objects and comment on the effects produced by the camera, evaluating them.

The video footage continues into a black screen with flashing white light, after a while crackling trance music is heard in the background as the camera audio also records a passerby asking, ‘Why are you filming everyone? For memory?’
